Hungarian Company Compliance Packages: Costs & Scope

Hungarian Company Compliance Packages: Costs & Scope

A Hungarian company can be registered quickly. Keeping it credible, reachable, properly accounted for, and ready for a bank, tax authority, or immigration review is the longer commitment. When you review compliance support packages, the real question is not which provider has the lowest headline price. It is whether the package gives a foreign founder clear responsibility, documented deliverables, and support that continues after company formation in Hungary.

For a US founder or international operator, this matters because a Hungarian Kft is not a mailbox or a residence shortcut. It is an EU company with filing, tax, accounting, registered office, and representation requirements. The wrong support arrangement can leave you with missed correspondence, unclear accounting responsibilities, or expensive corrective work just when your business needs momentum.

What a compliance package should cover after incorporation

A useful package separates the work required to register a company in Hungary from the services needed to operate it. Initial incorporation may include corporate documents, filing, company registration, EU VAT registration where applicable, and assistance with opening a corporate bank account in Hungary. Ongoing compliance is different: it concerns the company’s address, official communications, bookkeeping, tax reporting, annual obligations, and changes to the company’s structure or activities.

Do not accept broad language such as “full support” without a service schedule. Ask what is included, who performs each task, how often the provider communicates with you, and what triggers an additional fee. Lawyer-led corporate support and Hungarian accounting are complementary, but they are not interchangeable. Your lawyer handles corporate legal matters and filings within the agreed scope. Your accountant maintains financial records and prepares relevant tax and financial filings based on complete, timely information from you.

A package should also identify the point at which responsibility moves back to the client. For example, a provider can receive official mail at a registered office, but you still need to respond promptly when asked for invoices, contracts, banking records, or explanations of transactions.

Review compliance support packages by deliverables, not labels

Two packages with similar names can have materially different value. One may include only an address for registration. Another may include registered office administration, a delivery agent, corporate document maintenance, and coordinated access to legal and accounting professionals. Compare the underlying deliverables.

Registered office and delivery agent are different services

A registered office is the official address recorded for the Hungarian Kft. It is where the company can be legally reached. A delivery agent has a separate role for companies or individuals where Hungarian service-of-process arrangements are required. Foreign founders should not assume that one service automatically includes the other.

Ask whether incoming correspondence is scanned, forwarded, translated, or flagged as urgent. Ask who monitors deadlines and whether the package includes only receipt of mail or also a professional review of what the notice requires. A low annual fee may be appropriate for a basic address service, but it does not necessarily buy legal analysis or tax representation.

Accounting scope needs transaction-based pricing

Hungarian accounting is an operating function, not a formality added at the end of the year. The monthly fee should reflect the company’s actual activity, including invoice volume, payroll, EU transactions, VAT position, currencies, and reporting complexity.

A realistic review asks what the monthly price covers and what it excludes. Does the quoted fee assume no employees? Are payroll, annual financial statements, VAT returns, management reports, or additional tax consultations charged separately? If you run an e-commerce business, software company, consulting firm, or cross-border trading operation, explain the model before accepting a quote. The best package is often not the cheapest one. It is the one priced for your actual transaction profile, so the provider is not forced to reprice the relationship after the first active month.

Corporate changes should have a clear route

Your original company incorporation in Hungary may be straightforward. Later changes can require separate legal work: adding a shareholder, changing a managing director, modifying the registered office, amending activities, transferring quotas, or restructuring capital. A compliance package should tell you whether legal consultations are included, discounted, or billed case by case.

That distinction protects both sides. It prevents a founder from assuming that every future corporate action is covered by an annual address fee, while ensuring the provider can assess the legal and tax consequences before documents are filed.

Questions to ask before you commit

Use this checklist to test whether a proposed package fits a real cross-border business:

  • Which services are included in the company setup in Hungary, and which begin only after registration?
  • Does the annual fee include a registered office, delivery agent service, mail handling, or only one of these?
  • Who will perform Hungarian accounting, and what monthly activity level is assumed in the quote?
  • How are tax deadlines, official notices, and missing client documents escalated?
  • What is excluded, including bank fees, authority charges, translations, notarial work, payroll, tax advice, and legal changes?
  • What information must the company provide each month, and in what format?

The answers reveal whether the provider has a process or simply an attractive entry price. They also help you compare proposals fairly. If one proposal includes a year of address services and another bills those services separately, their incorporation fees cannot be compared in isolation.

Banking and residence support require careful expectations

Bank account assistance is valuable because corporate bank account Hungary procedures can involve identity checks, business-model questions, source-of-funds evidence, and bank-specific compliance reviews. Assistance does not mean account approval is guaranteed. Banks make their own decisions, and remote incorporation does not automatically mean remote banking. Identification and due-diligence requirements may differ.

The same principle applies to business residence. Owning a Hungarian company, serving as its managing director, or buying Hungarian property does not itself grant a residence permit. A residence application depends on the immigration route, evidence, personal circumstances, and the authority’s assessment. If your commercial plan includes living in Hungary, review whether the package provides company formation only, legal residence-permit services, or coordinated support across both workstreams.

This is particularly relevant for an investment-based route involving company formation and property acquisition. Legal fees may cover coordination and representation, while the investment or property purchase price, authority fees, and third-party costs remain separate unless the engagement letter says otherwise. A credible adviser will state that boundary before you commit capital.

What transparent pricing looks like

Transparent pricing does not mean every future cost can be fixed before the business exists. It means the provider states the known fee, the included scope, the renewal terms, and the variables that may change the price.

For example, an incorporation package may cover document preparation and filing, registration, EU VAT registration, the first year of registered-address and delivery-agent services, and assistance with a business bank account. It should also state the statutory share capital requirement for a Hungarian Kft, currently HUF 3,000,000, and clarify that this capital is not the provider’s fee.

Then look at year two. Registered office and delivery-agent services may renew separately. Accounting should be quoted as an ongoing monthly service based on activity. Residence-permit legal work should be priced separately from incorporation unless a combined engagement expressly includes it. These distinctions are not fine print. They are the financial map for operating a compliant EU business.

Choose control over vague promises

A support package is worth paying for when it reduces uncertainty without hiding dependencies. You should know who receives government correspondence, who maintains the company’s books, when you need legal input, what documents you must supply, and what happens if your business model changes.

For entrepreneurs entering a new jurisdiction, that structure creates practical freedom. Instead of managing an unfamiliar system through scattered vendors and last-minute translations, you have an organized route from company setup in Hungary through ongoing corporate maintenance and accounting. But the structure only works when both the adviser and the founder treat compliance as an active business process.
